Who I Am
I am a pharmacist with over 10 years’ experience across hospital clinical pharmacy, medicines optimisation, formulary practice, and genomic medicine.
My background started in broad clinical pharmacy roles across acute and specialist care, including surgery, acute medicine, critical care, paediatrics, transplant, and haematology. I then moved into system-level medicines optimisation and formulary leadership at Cambridge University Hospitals, before focusing more deeply on genomics and pharmacogenomics.
I have worked in regional and national genomics roles, including the East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance and NHS England’s Genomics Unit, helping to implement genomic and pharmacogenomic testing into routine NHS care. Alongside service leadership, I also teach and contribute to education and professional guidance in pharmacogenomics, including through Cambridge and UKCPA.
Why Genomics
Always interested in genetics and molecular biology — the code for life. I joined the MSt in Genomic Medicine at Cambridge because I could see that genomics was going to become increasingly important in everyday prescribing and medicines optimisation.
As a pharmacist, I wanted a stronger academic and scientific foundation in pharmacogenomics, bioinformatics, implementation, and the wider personalised medicine landscape. I was especially interested in bridging the gap between laboratory science, genomic data, and real clinical decision-making at the bedside and across health systems.
The programme gave me a way to combine my clinical background with my interest in research, innovation, and service transformation. It also helped me shape my longer-term focus on implementing pharmacogenomics safely and effectively in the NHS, as well as developing research interests such as chrono-pharmacogenomics.
