Domain 1 & 2 – Collaborative, Clinical and Professional Practice
Over 13 years of practice developing collaboration and communication skills across patient-facing roles, leadership roles, formal learning and experiential learning. Communication strengths lie in distilling complex information, shining relevance to an objective, sharing it clearly, and agreeing concise, actionable plans with stakeholders. Can de-escalate difficult conversations in both clinic and professional settings.
Nationally, chaired the NHS England Genomics Pharmacy Operational Group, navigating heavy agendas and sensitive items while ensuring equitable airtime. Regionally, chairs the East GMSA Pharmacy & genomics informed medicines optimisation working group. Previously professional secretariat for the CUH Joint Drugs and Therapeutics Committee.
Clinical expertise from specialist areas across acute medicine, transplant, critical care, and currently advanced medical haematology pharmacist independent prescriber with expertise in thrombophilia and anticoagulation. Working in the medical haematology clinic, managing and advising on complex patients with genetic diseases including haemophilia, haemoglobinopathies, thrombophilia, and general haematology with congenital deficiencies.
Domain 3 – Leadership and Management
Leadership style switches between democratic and laissez-faire depending on whether the objective requires personal leadership, influence, or delegation. Regional leadership and national collaboration to integrate genomics in routine practice, setting a clear vision for pharmacogenomics and precision medicines while securing cooperation across services despite competing system priorities.
Active governance role through membership of national groups: NHS England Genomics Pharmacy Operational Group, Genomics Pharmacy Advisory Group, Pharmacy Workforce Group for Genomics, and the Pharmacogenomics Digital Group. Regionally chairs the East GMSA Pharmacy & Genomics-informed Medicines Optimisation Forum.
International advisory on clinical strategy at the intersection of genomics, pharmacy, technology, education, and both machine learning and generative artificial intelligence. Horizon-scanning work with MHRA, NICE, industry and academia keeps pathways aligned to real-world pipelines.
Domain 4 – Education
Founding member of the Health Education England Genomics Education Programme pharmacy workforce group, and founding Education Lead for UKCPA Genomics Committee. Designed, developed, and delivered educational content and webinars, influenced MPharm and higher education curricula, and routinely delivered educational sessions to diverse professional audiences in pharmacy and beyond.
Guest lecturer and supervisor for dissertations and assignments for postgraduate Genomic Medicine at the University of Cambridge. Co-led the Genomics in Pharmacy NGEP webpage, demystifying genomics for pharmacy and the wider MDT.
Developing novel educational and training approaches to genomics, clinical pharmacy and clinical artificial intelligence that are dynamic, employing personalised education for personalised medicine.
Domain 5 – Research
Research journey began during MPharm degree with machine learning and pharmaceutics, followed by computational molecular modelling of enzyme variations. HEE clinical academic pre-doctoral fellowship enabled development of clinical research skills including patient and public involvement, methodology planning, costing, and scientific writing.
During Masters in Genomic Medicine at Cambridge, expanded research project methodology autonomously and delivered research outputs beyond requirements, disseminated in conference proceedings. Developed a service evaluation on diagnostic and treatment pathways of rare disease patients, with grant applications submitted to comprehensively map patient pathways.
Current research includes AI-enabled PGx decision-support and education tool with clinically anchored guardrails, and guidance on genomics research in cardiothoracic patients with post-operative delirium and melatonin. Medium and long-term goals: clinical doctoral studies in genomic medicine, followed by creating a pharmacogenomics research lab in the East alongside consultant pharmacist role.

Career Journey
My journey in genomic medicine started with my MPharm dissertation highlighting the importance of genetic variation in pharmacological outcomes. Working as a clinical pharmacist across most clinical areas at a large teaching hospital gave me a comprehensive perspective and understanding of the direction of medicine. Leading the hospital formulary team evolved my skills in applying clinical expertise at system-level interventions, while honing leadership, transformation, and critical appraisal skills.
In 2018, I was the first in my region to secure funding for a Masters in Genomic Medicine at Cambridge alongside full-time work. Appointed to the GMSA transformation role and concurrently to the national NHS England genomics unit role, working in two parallel senior roles bridging national policy and strategy to regional implementation and operational activities. In 2023, appointed to the consultant pharmacist genomics job-share position concurrently with the medical haematology role, enabling translation of national policy into regional strategies informed by local advanced clinical practice.
